Scipione Charger, diameter: 31cm

The name Scipione has a double meaning.  It dates back to Scipione Borghese, the early-17th Century Cardinal who was patron of the famous art collection at the Villa Borghese.  It also refers to the infamous Roman general and statesmen, Scipio Africanus, whom at the end of the 3rd Century BC defeated Hannibal of Carthage.  Both figures have an association is the colour red and gold which adorn the splendid Scipione dinner collection.

Brand Notes

"The Corolla Mauiri collection takes its name from the enthralling Villa Borghese in Rome.  Each colour is like a fantasy from this famous palace, telling a bit of history and entertainment at once.  The gold covered plates are the ultimate combination of sumptuous and fun, creating a dinner service full of life and joy.

Like the Ginori, the colours can be mixed up across the service, and each collection is available to order in each of the 8 shapes/sizes.  There are also the tea and coffee sets, and the cake stand, for less formal occasions."
